Can you believe Christmas is almost here? I still remember last year’s Christmas as if it were yesterday. Decorating the tree and the house, gathering recipes to make for the family Christmas dinner and then frantically grocery shopping the day before for all the necessary ingredients. Yes, indeed… I remember all of it as if it were yesterday. How is it that a whole YEAR has already passed, and now I have to go through the same routine mentioned above?!

Yes, my friends… Time really flies, doesn’t it? And I think the older I get, the faster it seems to fly by. Anybody else with me on this one?

This Week’s Hits are:

- Lack of Snow so far. Since we are on the Christmas / Winter subject… I might as well continue. It is the middle of December, and I am so happy to say that we have only had ONE “snow storm” here in Toronto so far… And even that wasn’t that crazy of a snow storm. I’ve touched on the issue of snow before, and if you read that post, you know that although I like the fairy tale beauty of snow, the reality of it is a lot uglier than the pretty, fluffy, white stuff that we tend to think of when we think of snow. Like for example, take this recent snow storm that hit the city last week: although yes, the roads were a dirty, slippery mess… it wasn’t as if you couldn’t drive at all. However, it seems to me like, every singe year, when it starts to snow for the first few days, it is as though everyone completely FREAKS OUT, and forget how to drive altogether!! I mean, seriously people, you live in CANADA, you’d think that by now you’d be used to driving in Winter conditions. But no, every single year, at the beginning of the Winter season and with the first few snow falls, people forget how to drive. It is a FACT. I am telling you… You must believe me! ;)

- Funny voicemail greeting. Last week I was calling someone for the first time, and I got her voicemail. Now, if you’re like most people you have the same old boring voicemail greeting saying the same old boring message. (Hey, I’m not pointing fingers here, mine is the boring one too ;) ) But when I dialed this lady’s number, I was pleasantly surprised to hear one of the funniest greetings to date. I had a huge smile on my face for a good half hour after hearing it. It was humorous, it was different, and I seriously considered changing my own greeting to the same one. No, I haven’t done it yet, but I still might. ;)

Below is the word for word recording of her voicemail greeting. I know because I wrote it down. That’s the kind of nerd that I am. I knew I wasn’t going to remember it if I didn’t write it down. And I wanted to share it with all of you, my lovely readers, in hopes of spreading that smile over to you or perhaps inspiring you to change your own voicemail greeting to something funny as well:

Leave a message and I’ll get back to you soon.
Leave a funny message and I’ll get back to you sooner.
SING your message and I will call you RIGHT away.
Lets see which one you end up doing?!

Cool, no? I bet you, you can tell so much about the callers personality depending on which option they choose leaving their messages. =)

This Week’s Misses are:

- Forgetting people’s names when first introduced to them. This is a really big problem for me. I don’t know what it is, or why I have this problem, but every time I am introduced to somebody new, and you know the drill, you shake hands, and exchange names; 95% of the time, I will NOT remember the name of that person. That is so awful! I can’t quite figure out why that is, or how to rectify this problem. I have a really good visual memory, so I will never, ever forget the face or the name if I see it written down, but when I hear the name, my brain just blacks out and it just doesn’t register the name. Being a business owner, and in general while wanting to expand my network of people, I think this is one of the biggest issues I have to work on really hard, because there is nothing worse than meeting that person again some time later and not remember their name. YIKES!

Anybody have any useful tips on how to fix my little name loss problem?? I would really appreciate it if you could share your tricks to remembering names when first being introduced to new people in the comments below.

I really enjoyed reading this article. The snow storm and how ppl forget how to drive is so true. In fact I experienced that first thing in the morning today

This is a great post! Lack of the snow is definitely a bonus. I totally agree on drivers not being able to drive when it snows. I also will add that it happens when it starts raining as well. I am not sure why people cant get used to it. After all winter in Canada does last forever well almost :) .

I have the same problem with recalling the names or faces actually. I was always fascinated how teachers had such a good memory and knew every student :)

Leyla, oh my god, i completely understand you about not remembering the names of people when u first meet them! ONLY when i make a mental note that says “REMEMBER THE NAME”, i can actually remember it. But its really hard to do even if you are completely aware of the situation!
    Cant wait to see you,
    xoxo

I agree that times seems to fly faster as you get older:) I feel the same way.

My children haven’t seen real snow yet. It’s a rare treat, or should I say a non-existent “treat” where we live in California. They’ve seen fake snow and they had blast rolling in it. Poor kids:)

Ahh, remembering people’s names:) Maybe you should carry a small notepad with you and every time you are introduced so somebody, quickly and slyly write down the name of the person as soon as you hear it:)) But also write a short description next to the name, such as where you met him/her, how he looked at etc:to remember easier:)

My problem is the opposite. I am terrible at recognizing faces. It’s embarrassing. My brain doesn’t register faces for some odd reasons no matter how much time I spent with that person the first time. It is terrible! Any tricks to cure this?:)

Hey Leyla! I definitely don’t miss the snow now that I live in LA! I love that voicemail greeting- soo funny! I improved at remembering people’s names after having to for sorority recruitment. I don’t really have any tips- I think I just got used to having to know girls’ names and just looking them in the eye and repeating their names in my head so that I remembered them! xo, Mel

    Hi Lel,
I know exactly what you mean. I have a bit of a different problem, when I introduce two people that I know that just met I sometimes forget one of their names, even know I know them! lol It’s quite embarrassing!
