Although there has been a fair balance of rain vs. sunshine this fall, there is no denying it; each day is a little colder than the last. It won’t be too long now that the first snow hits the ground. Something is different this year, as I am sort of looking forward to the snow… My favourtie time in the wintertime is when it snows at night! Have you ever been outside at night when it is snowing? It is one of the most magical moments ever! There is usually no wind, so it’s total peace and quite, except for the tiny noise made by the millions of little snowflakes hitting the ground and the trees. It truly feels like winter wonderland, and I love walking on the snow that doesn’t have any footprints yet… That is the part of winter that I like the most. Now, don’t burst my romantic, fairy tale bubble and remind me of the reality of snow. The icy roads, the slush and the salt on the ground that ruins your pants… Lets not go there. Allow me to stay in my little fairy tale world for a little bit longer, will ya?
This Week’s Hits are:
- I just watched a fabulous film this Friday, called Coco Chanel. No, it’s not the one that just came out; that one is called Coco Avant (before) Chanel, starring Audrey Tautou. The film I watched is called, just Coco Chanel released in September 2008. It is is a television film directed by Christian Duguay and written by Ron Hutchinson, Enrico Medioli and Lea Tafuri. It stars Shirley MacLaine as (the older) Coco Chanel. The film is based on the life of the controversial, French fashion designer. Although I didn’t know much about Coco’s life prior to watching this film, I have always held huge admiration for her as a strong-willed woman and an amazing designer of timeless, classic and fabulous pieces that women drool over to this day.
I loved the film for so many reasons. I loved the setting of beautiful French country side and the modern city. I loved how honest & innocent people were back in the day. The acting was really well done by all of the characters, and I especially love how inspirational Coco’s life truly was, and how much one can learn from what she has gone through.
Here is a short list of what really struck with me:
- Coco was an incredibly strong willed and determined woman. She definitely stood out from the rest of the women of that era, because she knew what she wanted, and was not scared of pursuing her dreams.
- I am not sure where she learnt it, but she was the type of woman that would not take no for an answer, and would still go after what she knew in her heart was her callling, despite what the rest of the people told her was possible.
- At the beginning of her career, she had some quite controversial ideas about the type of clothing that women wanted to wear, and was ridiculed a lot for those ideas. But in the end, it was her pioneering ideas that has helped to shape the fashion sense & style of a modern lady. So the lesson here is that, no matter how crazy your ideas might seem to you right now, if you believe in them with all of your heart, have the courage to pursue them, and DO NOT let others to dictate what you can and cannot do, you will achieve them. Simply because it has not been done before, does not mean that it can’t be done by You!
- Although Coco was incredibly smart and fashion / business savvy, the same could not be said about how she approached her love life. Without giving away too much, (because I want you to see the film for yourselves, and don’t want to ruin the story), I will say this: her love life is a clear example that there cannot be pride and ego when it comes to LOVE. If you truly want to be happy with the one that you love, you MUST leave your pride & ego at the door, and enter the relationship with an open heart, and without any reservations or without holding back. On the flip side, if pride & ego are present, you will miss on the most wonderful experiences of sharing your life with a soul mate. So, the choice is yours!
This Week’s Misses are:
- I know I am only 25, and I am probably just exaggerating, but I have recently noticed something that shocked me when I looked in the mirror. I found tiny wrinkles under my eyes! Wrinkles at 25?! I guess that is the age when the body starts to age ever so slowly… I know these wrinkles are only visible to me so far, when I come really close to the mirror, but they bother me! I have always thought that I was anti-plastic surgery, because I thought that I believe in Aging Gracefully. And I think I still believe that, but seeing those wrinkles was a bit of a wake-up call. I want to research and find natural ways of taking care of your body and skin from the inside as well as the outside, so you look and feel your best for as long as possible. I promise to post my findings here, and share the info with all of you, my lovely readers, so we can all Live Our Best Lives! =)
Do you know of any tips or ways of keeping your skin looking younger? Please share in the comments below. =)

I am in the same boat as you pretty much… I am not taking the whole “aging” transition well enough… and it has really been bothering me lately
(( and mayb its just in my head… but as long as its there it will continue to bug me… and even though I eat well and exercise… I dont like when my body changes and I wish I could stay and look the same till the day I die lol
Will you please send some snow to me? Please? I have NEVER seen it- now I think when I do finally see it- I will wear Chanel! LOL!
Hey Leyla, I haven’t been by in a while. I loved the Coco movie, but it got a little long for me. (Perhaps I was just watching too late at night.) Being down south, I rarely see snow at all, and first morning snow is ALL we ever have–it’s gone by afternoon. Let us know what you find about natural anti-aging. I’m just a couple years ahead of you–why did no one tell us about wrinkles in your twenties!?
Hi Leyla,
I love your weekly Hits & Misses section. I always read it with anticipation:)
I also am looking forward to the snow- the late night walks , as well as walks in the park after it snowed are so peaceful and beautiful.
You have no wrinkles by the way! Stop worrying!
xoxo
Mimi
I will totally support the fantasy of the snow. I truly want to think of no reality of it AT ALL… but the fantasy, A gazillion percent will I support that… It is truly a beautifully amazing site, smell, sound and feel…
Your write up on Coco was wonderful… I wish I had even 1/4 of her confidence….
As far as the wrinkles… Be proud of every one of them as long as they are from laughter and smiling…

Leyla, it’s always a joy to read your weeklies! Snow has a special place in my heart. It brings me back to childhood, allows me to openly embrace romance (I’m a closet-romantic) and think more freely than I ever can otherwise. Thankfully, I do not have memory of living in snow, so I can still hold on to its magic. It’s wonderful, but weather is weather. At the end of the day, it’s not the most important thing to me. As strange as it sounds, I’m beginning to appreciate sunny days.
And you’re right: Coco conquered with style. I saw that movie as well. It was fun to see her turn her life around despite criticism, barriers and societal restraints. I cannot recall her love life at all, but I do remember thinking she was prideful.
And I love Audrey Tautou! She is so free!!!
