Since launching my blog this week, I have been thinking of introducing some sort of a feature where I can reflect back on the past week. Anybody that knows me well, knows that I am all about reflecting back on life’s events. I’ve been keeping a journal for as long as I can remember, and although recently I have been slacking, and haven’t gotten around to writing in it as much as I wish I did, I still feel that is it the best way to let out your most private and intimate thoughts, feelings & emotions. Whenever I take the time to re-read my past entries, it always surprises me to see my own past advice to myself. You’d be surprised how much wisdom can come from your own self, when you start writing from a deep place within.
So, every Sunday, I will post a few things under the Week’s Hits & Misses. I think it’s a great way for me to keep sort of a Blog Diary of my life’s events. And also, I think it will allow you, my lovely readers to get to know me a little better (if you don’t already
)
This week’s Hits are:
- Alex Ikonn from the Ikonn Media, who helped me tremendously in the creation process of this blog. Alex is not only a new treasured member of our family, who makes my lovely sister happy every day, but also is a great friend. Without his most valued help, I would not be able to have as beautiful of a new home in the ever growing Blogosphere! Thank you Alex from the bottom of my heart for all of your help! You’re on your way to a successful future, and I’m extremely proud of you!!

- The power of a compliment to a stranger. I was at a grocery store one evening, and noticed how the cashier looked tired, and bored. Although she greeted me politely, I could see the glazed over look on her eyes – I was just another passing face in front of her cash register . She was a young, beautiful girl and she was wearing a pretty shade of red on her lips. So I said: “I love your red lipstick, you look gorgeous!” Which she did. And oh my, you should have seen her reaction! Right away, it was like a switch went on in her eyes, she lit up from within, and finally really looked at me. She thanked me many times for this simple & honest compliment, and as I was leaving, I took a few seconds to watch her. She looked transformed: energized, joyful and was smiling and greeting the next customer, who was also friendly in return. As I was leaving, I couldn’t help but make a point in my mind, about how little it takes to bring a smile to someone’s face. Whether or not that made her day, who knows, but it for sure made her happier for those few minutes, which in return made me happy.
- I found these fabulous Stick-on Wall Decorations at DeSerres! My bedroom is long overdue for a Make-Over, so I will be getting one of these FAB designs for sure! Such an easy & affordable way to inject style into any space!

This week’s Misses are:
- The rainy Toronto weather!! I can’t believe that it is already almost the middle of August, and it has been the most rainiest and cloudiest summers I have ever seen! I don’t know what’s going on – but I certainly did not feel like we have a summer at all. And I’m not ready for the freezing winter weather, and the snow banks by any means… I miss sunshine, heat, the beach, you know – the normal things that you’re supposed to get tired of in the summer? This sucks! =( I just have to move somewhere hot permanently, so I can stop complaining about the weather already.
- On April 7, 2009 I lost my beloved Mishka, who was my best friend for 16 years of my life. Can’t believe that this week it was already his 5 month’s anniversary since he’s been gone. I miss him terribly, but know that he is always with me in my heart. Thank you for all the joy & happiness that you’ve brought to our family, Mishka, wherever you are right now – I love you!
- Parking tickets. I have to appear in court to fight this ticket that I got while doing a delivery for my previous employer over a year ago! I don’t want to fight it, and I don’t want to pay it… Can’t it just magically disappear, please?
This concludes the first installment of my Weekly Hits & Misses… Hope you enjoyed it.
Happy Monday!

Lovely post!!! I do think that sometimes thats those little gestures/comments make people more happy. One time I had an informal casual interview at a certain company and the lady was saying the nicest things about my resume and how she would hire me on the spot if they werent on a freeze and she was just impressed with me… and that made me blush a little because you are not used to hearing those things very often from potential employers on the spot. So, now when I remember that day it makes me
heehe
Yes, I absolutely agree with you, Victoria! It really doesn’t take a lot to brighten up someone’s day, and in some cases even turn the course of their life around. A friendly smile / hello, a few nice compliments, maybe a few wise words, and you never know what kind of an impact that will have on someone’s life! =) Thanks for sharing your story…
I like those stick on the wall pieces. It’s surprising how something so very simple can really enhance a room.
Sorry to read about Mishka. As a fellow cat lover I know how hard it is to loose a cat. They are special creatures that somehow make a space for themselves in your heart.
Hi Leyla,
Thanks for vistiing my site and yours is lovely! What a great combination of topics. I will especially be coming back to visit the Reading & Spirtituality section! Hits and Misses is also a good idea – it helps us get a sense of where we are. My deepest condolences on the loss of your kitty. I have a 12 year old dog that is stuck to me like velcro so I know where you are coming from.
Take care, Lorrie
Hi Leyla,
I love this new addition to Leyla’s room and am looking forward to read more of them. I like how this section of your blog is so sincere and honest. You don’t get to see too many people share such private information.
I can’t believe you are going to be doing another room makeover. I personally think your room looks fab,but what do I know….lol
The last part of your post about Mishka made me cry…I miss him too much:(
xoxo
