Some of us live in a victim mentality. Thinking that we have no control over what happens to us. That is as far from the truth as can be. We, and only we are the creators of what happens to our lives. Now, most people live their lives unconsciously. Making the same choices, over and over again that do not bring the desired results. Yet, they keep the same attitude and keep doing what doesn’t work. And there are many reasons why they don’t change.

Firstly, for change to happen, there has to be acknowledgement that something is not working. If you are living in denial, you cannot except things to change. Once you reach a stage of seeing and accepting that something has to change, that’s the first step. Most often than not, even after we know what we are doing wrong, we still don’t change. Why is that?

I think that’s because we are scared. Because we do not know where to begin & what to do. Sometimes it’s laziness & procrastination. We know what we need to change, but cannot gain enough courage to actually take the necessary actions.

Well, today’s post has to do with the simple act of consciously observing what you allow to enter into your life. Because the thoughts & feelings that you experience shape your existence.

Read on to get inspired… =)

Nikki gives this short explanation on our ability to create and the power that we have over what we’re exposed to and our reaction to it, to Dylan after she played some guitar to him. – Page 335

{ They talked about their ability to create and Nikki explained how thought began the process, but how nothing could come into form until it becomes clothed in feeling. She made clear critical power of learning to control what is allowed within one’s feelings, for that is the area where discord makes its entrance.

“Have you ever known people who destroy everything around them that’s beautiful and good because they can’t control their temper – people who use volatility as their primary means of expressing emotion?” she asked.

“In the thirties James Allen wrote a book titled As A Men Thinketh addressing this very issue and it’s as profound today as when it first came to press. He wrote about ’self-control as strength, of right thought as mastery, and calmness as power.’ He likened a man’s mind to a garden, which could be cultivated with intent or allowed to run wild. Allen said, whether cultivated or neglected, the ‘mind will bring forth the fruition of the seeds that are left there, whether they are useful seeds, or weed seeds.’ It’s his message that prompted me to weed my garden so often, just to remind myself to eliminate my own useless thoughts and feelings.”

“Nik, luv,” Crow interrupted, “we’re exposed to unlimited trauma and drama everywhere we look. We can’t possibly control all the images and seeds that are planted in our brains.”

Nikki stood and stretched as she continued. “Ah, but my dearest, we can! First, and foremost, we can choose much of what we are exposed to! Who chooses the novels and publications we read? Who chooses the movies we watch, the news we listen to, the music we hear, the parties we attend, and the company we keep? True, there are times when you simply can’t get away from the muck by voting politely with your feet, but even then, we have the ability to transmute the energy of the situation.”

Nikki reached for a popular magazine he’d been reading, and kneeling beside her lover, began to flip the pages. “The tragedy of our mass media today is through story, whether written, sung, or acted out, we’ve become addicted to the volatility of destructive behaviours, viewing life as one great painful drama, as evidenced by ninety-eight percent of that which is written in America’s favourite magazines and what appears on our televisions – eh?

“Though that is a pathway of learning, it’s just as powerful to observe people rising over dilemma and trauma to the best within themselves – just like Hodgson Burnett stories. Instead, the media serve up a feast of judgment, condemnation, and criticism that creates a feeding frenzy among the populous. Remember how people were glued to the television during the O.J. Simpson murder trial? Meanwhile, with the public distracted, they neglected to notice the truly important things going on around them…like the President of the U.S. eliminating the last shreds of our constitution.

“Mass media could be the most remarkable means by which to force to enlighten people, but it has definitely been infiltrated by nefarious forces that consciously utilize it to hold the populace in a mesmerized state of fear, hate, anger, and resentment. In this constant state of discord, people have difficulty connecting to the truth of their relation to God and one another and end up looking for someone or something else to lead the way.

“Those who finance the film industry and the major publishing houses are concerned only with the bottom line, and they, too, have become addicted to how much money can they make by pushing people’s buttons. The majority of them, consciously and devotedly, seek stories imbued with voilence, lust, greed, selfishness, infidelity, dishonesty, and a thousand other destructive emotions – because it ’sells!’ Most of the time when they choose the lighthearted approach to life, they express it through vulgarity or absolute stupidity, creating a fool of the otherwise noble human spirit.” }

I hope this all made sense to you. Isn’t it true that we do have control over which books/magazines we read? What news we listen to? What movies we watch? Which people we associate ourselves with? Who we surround ourselves with? What parties we attend? What foods we eat? And much more. The answer is, whether or not you like it, YOU are the one responsible for choosing everything that you allow to enter into your life, and although sometimes you cannot fully control exactly what happens, you certainly have control over your reaction & perspective that you take on, which shapes your future.

What do you guys think? Agree or disagree? What are you thoughts on the matter? I’d love to hear them all! =)

    I agree with you 100%. In life we get a 1,000,000 different options, however the choices we make are totally up to us…and that determines where life takes us:)
