This is probably one of the easiest, fastest and most cost effective desserts out there! I promise you, it takes less than 1/2 hr to make, and it’s so delish! Warm & flaky with just enough sweetness.

What’s the story behind this recipe? Well, one day I was craving something sweet to drink with my tea in the evening (like I do on most nights), and it was already around 9 p.m.. So I thought I’d just drive to the nearest grocery store and get some Pillsbury Crescents to make the Croissants… You know, cause they’re just so easy to make, right?

Once I got home, I started to improvise and created this cute little desert. While making it, I was playing around with different folding patters, and wrapping the dough around to make a cute shape. So I told my Fabulous Stylist sister, who by the way has a just as fabulous of a Fashion Blog, and you should all check it out – that it reminds me of a Wraparound Dress. And she said: It’s an Apple Wrapper! So that’s how the name was born… She’s just so great when it comes to coming up with the best titles for everything. I admit… I envy her talent in that department ;)

So, you’re probably ready to find out how to make these babies. Here is what you’re going to need. The shortest list of ingredients ever!

apple_wrapper2

Pillsbury Crescents Croissants – Grands, Granny Smith Apple, Egg, Turmeric powder (I’ll explain the use for it later), Cactus Honey Powder (or if you don’t have this and don’t know where to get it, you can totally substitute it with Brown Sugar, it’ll taste just as good) and a rolling pin…

Lets begin… Firstly get the dough out of the packaging. It’ll look like this…

apple_wrapper3

NOTE: Make sure that you keep the dough refrigerated till the very moment that you are ready to use it. Otherwise, it becomes too soft and sticky and incredibly hard to work with. Trust me, I learnt the hard way!

Now, unroll each of the triangle cutouts (they’re already pre-cut for you)

apple_wrapper4

Now cut each triangle in half, to create double the amount.

apple_wrapper5

Cut the apple like shown below…

apple_wrapper6

And cut into 4 equal parts… Do the same for the rest of the apple, making sure you don’t cut into the middle part, where the seeds are.

apple_wrapper7

Now roll out the dough a little bigger and thinner than it is, so it’s easier to wrap, and also it becomes more delicate when it bakes. But make sure not to roll it out too much, as it might be too thin, which will stick to the board, or even worse, rip… which we don’t want. So just use your judgement. Thin enough to wrap around, but not too thin to have holes ;)

apple_wrapper8

Now just sprinkle a bit of the Cactus Honey Powder or Brown Sugar right along the center of the triangle like so…

apple_wrapper9

Place the apple slice right in the center, leaving a bit of a gap at the bottom of the triangle. You will see why in a second…

apple_wrapper10

Lift the bottom of the dough and wrap up on top of the apple…

apple_wrapper11

Lift the right end, and wrap across from right to left like shown below…

apple_wrapper12

Do exactly the same thing with the left end. Wrap it across from left to right.

apple_wrapper13

Now take the right end and wrap it around the back and bring it back to the front, and do the same thing with the left end, until you have something that looks like this…

apple_wrapper14

Do exactly the same thing with the rest of them and place them on a baking sheet. You can either grease the bottom or line the baking sheet with wax paper, like I have – to prevent them from sticking to the sheet, and of course less clean up if you use the wax paper, which sounds lovely to me.

apple_wrapper15

Almost done! We just need to brush these babies with something magical to give them a nice golden color when they’re done. And for that you need to separate the egg white from the egg yolk. In a small bowl put in the egg yolk and save the white for something else. (you won’t be needing it for this recipe).

apple_wrapper16

Are you ready to find out the secret ingredient to get that beautiful golden crust? Simple, add in a few sprinkles of Turmeric Powder for an extra punch of color.

apple_wrapper17

And give it a nice whisk…

apple_wrapper18

At this point, turn on the oven, pre-heat to 350° F

Now just brush each piece evenly with the egg yolk mixture on all sides…

apple_wrapper19

And sprinkle on a little bit more of the Cactus Honey Powder or the Brown sugar for a touch of sweetness and a prettier crust.

apple_wrapper20

That’s it! They are ready to go in the oven… After about 15 mins, start checking every few mins to make sure they’re rising beautifully and the color is getting nice and golden. I always have a fear of burning things in the oven, so I tend to check it more than I have to probably… But hey, better safe than sorry, right?

So hear you go… After about 20-25 mins, they come out warm & flaky & it’s ready to be served!

apple_wrapper21

You can serve it with you favourite tea, coffee, scoop of ice-cream or however else you like it… I just like it simple, with a nice green tea…

Mmm… YUM!

Try it… It’s so easy & so good! I promise it’ll be gone faster than you can get it out of the oven, so you might have to make extra, just in case ;)

Victoria, you will love these! So easy & so good!

I get the Cactus Honey Powder at a Korean Grocery store in Richmond Hill, called H Mart, not sure where else they sell it. But like I mentioned in the post, you can just use Brown Sugar instead of the Cactus Honey Powder, and it will taste just as good.

As for the Turmeric Powder, I get it at Persian Stores, again there are a few in Richmond Hill… I haven’t checked yet, but I would assume they would also have it at Bulk Barn, or any other store that carries spices… But don’t worry, if you can’t find either, you can still end up with the great end result. Just substitute to brown sugar, and use the Egg Yolk, it won’t be as golden, but it’ll taste the same =)

They remind you of a wrap-around dress? Do you have kids? Because you’ve just infant-swaddled an apple! They are so cute. I am laughing out loud that you kept calling them babies.

I’m posting photo heavy recipes too, but I don’t have a window near my kitchen to get that great natural light. So pretty.

I was thinking the same thing as Stina,

Those apple wrappers look like wrapped up babies. They were very delecious by the way.

Wonderful dessert, Im going to try them with Vanilla ice cream.
